Occupational Therapist

Abir is an Occupational Therapist at Mind Institute who supports children to develop the skills they need for play, learning and everyday independence. Her current work spans clinic-based therapy and occupational therapy within Mind Center’s early intervention and daily living skills programs. Her earlier experience includes clinical and school-based work in Tunisia and work at an autism therapy centre in Oman.

She works with autistic children and children with ADHD, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and developmental delays. Her clinical experience includes sensory processing, fine and gross motor skills, visual perception, handwriting and daily living activities such as using cutlery and managing classroom tools.

Abir has contributed to autism awareness and early detection projects, as well as initiatives supporting autistic children’s inclusion in mainstream schools. She has collaborated with teachers to adapt activities and support children’s participation, and helped establish a sensory integration room within an autism service.

Working closely with families is an important part of her practice. Her current work includes individual sensory regulation strategies and practical home and school programs, alongside support for handwriting and typing skills. She develops individual therapy plans and provides guidance to help families support their children’s skills outside sessions. Her role also includes clinical supervision within the occupational therapy team. Her wider rehabilitation experience also includes working with adults recovering from stroke.

Abir holds a degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Tunis El Manar. She has undertaken training in sensory integration and approaches based on applied behaviour analysis.
